MATCH REPORT: Tring Park Piranhas vs Hemel Hempstead Town CC – Friday Night Under the Sun
On a warm and sun-drenched Friday evening, Tring Park made the short trip along the A41 to take on local rivals Hemel Hempstead in what turned out to be a dominant display under the setting sun
A healthy crowd had gathered at Heath Park, with both sides bringing vocal support, as well as other clubs who had participated in the competition. A special mention to the Tring contingent who turned up in good numbers to cheer on the visiting XI. The Piranhas didn’t disappoint.
Batting first, Tring posted a competitive 151/9 from their 20 overs. The innings was built upon smart batting mixed with attacking intent, as shown early doors when Ryan Friend launched a colossal six clean over the ropes and into the road – a shot that had the crowd on their feet and the Hemel fielders trying that hand at traffic wardening.
Doodson, making his debut appearance against his former club after his move to Tring, looked composed and assured at the crease (minus his first ball when I’m sure his heart was in his mouth after being struck on the pads), contributing valuable runs alongside Scott as they shared a 5th wicket stand of 46, allowing us to push to a score of 151-9 from our 20 overs.
The real headline, however, belonged to Mr Kit Newman who tore through the Hemel batting line-up with a fiery and intelligent spell. His maiden five-wicket haul for the Piranhas was richly deserved, finishing with figures of 5-16 which left Hemel in tatters. The hosts were bowled out for just 73 in 15.5 overs, unable to cope with Tring’s intensity in the field and Newman’s relentless accuracy.
Special mention and thanks to George Bezani and David Rourke for umpiring and scoring throughout the competition.
Now for some Saturday silverware!
