Match Report

Tring Park U10s softball team travelled to Redbourn Cricket Club on Wednesday to play on The Common on what was a fantastic summer evening. Unfortunately we were two players short, but Redbourn kindly helped us out in the field.

Redbourn batted first and after good opening overs from Jamie & Dylan, the Redbourn openers struck a number of fours and sixes in their following overs. Rhys & Charlie Rough then tightened things up with good accurate bowling, putting pressure on the Redbourn batsmen, resulting in Rhys taking a wicket and only conceding 11 runs in his 3 overs. The Redbourn batsmen needed quick runs and began to attack the bowling, but Charlie Cunningham & Louis both took wickets and made it difficult for the batsmen to score many boundaries.

The boys fielded really well and stopped countless boundaries with some fantastic fielding. Charlie Cunningham ensured extras were kept to a minimum behind the stumps, which was continued by Dylan & Charlie Rough, who also did well with the gloves. After 16 overs, Redbourn ended up with a very good score of 298-5.

Tring opened the batting with Charlie Cunningham & Rhys, who punished any wayward deliveries, which saw the ball race to the boundary several times. Both batted sensibly, ensuring that neither gave their wicket away, giving Tring a great start of 227-0 after 4 overs. Charlie Rough & Dylan then came in and hit 9 boundaries between them, with Dylan hitting a couple of 6s, taking Tring to 272-1. Louis & Jamie continued this with another 9 boundaries, with Jamie taking 26 off 1 over! With the score at 318-2, Rhys & Charlie Cunningham came in again and stretched the lead to 328-2, with some solid and sensible batting.

It was a fantastic display from the boys, in all aspects of the game. Their bowling and fielding helped keep Redbourn under 300, while their batting was positive from the outset, but remained sensible, losing only 2 wickets. Although the boys stretched the winning margin to 30 runs, we must thank Redbourn for their kindness in helping us out in the field, if they hadn’t, it would have been close!

Well done boys, keep it going!
