Back on track at Berko!

Tring were put into bat and after losing a couple of early wickets, Tom Lowe (34*) and Dylan Wale (18) built an excellent and much needed partnership, taking the boys to 62-2 after 10 overs. Rishy Morjaria (31*) and Mal Bowyer (26*) then attacked the bowling with great maturity forming another key partnership with some fantastic shots that raced and sailed over the boundary. Having batted the full 20 overs, Tring ended up with 130-4, setting up a fascinating contest.

The Berko batsmen were put under early pressure, with superb spells of bowling from Joey Grinham (4-1-15-0) and Kit Newman (4-0-10-1). This tight and accurate bowling was continued by Rishy & Tom, before Jamie de Beer and Dylan each picked up a wicket, with Jamie’s over being the only wicket maiden of the match. Jake Anderson and Harry Whittle, who took his first wicket, continued to bowl with terrific accuracy, before Joseph Pyefinch held his nerve to bravely bowl his first over in an 11-a-side match. This magnificent bowling display was complimented by a strong performance in the field and a tireless, 20 over spell of wicket keeping from Ferdy Middleton, who provided constant encouragement and belief for the bowlers, as he worked relentlessly behind the stumps.

Berko ended up 111-4 and despite being 19 runs short, it was very evenly matched and huge credit must go to both teams for putting on such a superb display of cricket. Our captain, Thomas Lowe, did a fantastic job with clever bowling changes and thoughtful field placing, as well as taking a great catch. The teamwork and encouragement was great to see and the match was played in a wonderful spirit throughout.
