Our last away of the game of the season took us to the picturesque setting of Chalfont St Peter. We took a strong side over and they were needed as it was a very good close game.
We won the toss and elected to have first go on what proved to be a hard wicket to bat on. Nick Wake took a nasty blow to the finger but helped get us off to solid start in an opening partnership of 45 with Robbie Grout.
Alan Shepperd was looking in good nick but tweaked his groin again! He went into attack mode as quick singles were out before succumbing to a good catch from their captain . This brought in John Graham. When Robbie was out for 56 we had a firm base at 125-2. John then batted excellently for 61 with some characteristic big shots. No-one else could really get going and Chalfont continued to bowl well as we ended up on 201-9.
Chalfont got off to a good start against the new ball and despite Tring taking pace off the ball with James Darraugh and Steve Wale at 128-2 they were favourites to win. A key run out helped our cause and John Graham bowled well at the end with Toby Seagrave . Wickets fell as we choked them of runs and they ended up 14 short.
News came in that Hayes had lost which meant that we were up. Getting back to the club we found that the Two's were also promoted so a beer or six was consumed.
This has proved to be a brilliant season not only for the Four's but the whole club. The atmosphere was excellent Saturday and no doubt will be the same after the last game where we have a big celebration planned for all four sides.
It has been a privilege to Captain and play for the Fours's this season.
Thanks to all who have been involved it has been a blast.
