The Fours made it seven from seven at the Park as we edged home in another close game. We welcomed our good friends from Beaconsfield for a game we always enjoy. They won the toss and asked us to bat first on what proved to be a batting friendly surface.
The initial bowlingwas very accurate and hard to get away and we were 63-2 off 19 with no indication of the fireworks to follow. Alan Sheppard who first played for the club back in the distant 1970's and rejoined a couple of years ago then took over. Balls were struck to all parts as he posted a magnificent 138. He was grateful to be finally run out as I was about to go and dig out the Defib! Dick Highton and Steve Wale provided support as we ended up on 232-7 from our 40 overs.
It soon became apparent that we might struggle in the field as we had three players that had contrived to get injured batting or in the first couple of overs fielding. Despite this with James Gurnett bowling great lines we started well and Beaconsfield were 89-3 at the half way point.
Polloway who batted very well and was ably supported kept them in the hunt and the required rate kept coming down. One over went for 18 and suddenly the target was 53 off 8 with 4 wickets down. Tring were looking ragged in the field but the game turned when Polloway went for a riskysingle was and was run out by a direct throw from Gurnett .
Tring were re energised and bowled the death overs well, John Graham ending up with 4 wickets as Beaconsfield ended up 8 short on
224-7.
A great game to entertain the crowds! We remain second in the league as a very enjoyable to season enters the final stretch.
