Football may well be coming home but the Fours were away with their longest trip of the season. A planned long tea break to watch the match meant a very early start. We eventually arrived and decided to bat in the sun. A decision that looked as if it might backfire as we lost early wickets. Luckily Nick Wake is in fine form as was looking on for a ton until a direct hit run him out for 66. This was the queue for KK to showcase his T20 skills striking a brisk 41.
Under 13 Matt Cave scored an unbeaten 28 as we pushed on to score a very competitive 201-8 off our 40 overs. The early start meant we could bowl 11 overs before tea and Kew were 40-1 at this stage. The day carried on going well as we enjoyed seeing England stroll to the World cup semifinals.
Steve Wale took a wicket in the first over and Tring were on top. Grouty bowled a tight spell taking 4 wickets but Steve Wale hurt his back leaving us a bit short of bowling. Duncan Marriott then bowled well at the death and Kew came up 9 runs short despite their skipper scoring a good 45 not out.
This was a great team effort in the field with Steve Wale diving around despite being injured and Derren Maggs filling in to ensure we had 11.
Every-one pulled hard and I have bruises and cuts from the rock hard ground. The first beer back on the balcony tasted wonderful. Today was a good day . Football and cricket are coming home.
