Our usual mixture of quality juniors and slightly older players came second but gave a good account against a strong mature side who play their ground very well. After winning the toss I elected to field . In retrospect the wrong decision but we were in strong position after 28 overs and had a couple of chance's been held it could have been different.
Stoke got off to a strong start against our young seamers but the introduction of Nick Wale and Greg Lem turned the tide . Greg bowled superbly and deserved far more than 1 wicket and Nick bowled 10 overs 2-24 leaving Stoke on 134-3 off 28 . They had some hitters left including G Khan who scored 97 not out. The small ground worked for them and despite rotating the bowling lusty hitting took them to 256-4 . After a superb tea Tring it a good go.
The weather had not got any cooler and with the Wale brothers together at 131-3 off 25 we were in the game a they were wilting a bit. Unfortunately couple of quick wickets stopped us , Steve Wale (pictured) the pick of the batters with 62. A few good strikes by the youngsters took us to 183 but Stoke deserved their win. We look forward to the return.
