Home sweet home

It was a little bit of deja vue on Saturday. After our trip to a damp Marlow it was back to sunny Tring. The weather and result being remarkably similar. Hayes were our visitors this week and for the third week on the trot I won the toss. I had a slight dilemma as our estimeed groundsman intimated that it might turn later. I took a risk though and asked Hayes to bat first. Fortunately my bowlers ensured I didn't look too stupid . A real mix of a team this week . Two juniors making their debuts , Dick Highton and Yatesy making long awaited returns and a pair of Wales . What more could a skipper want, oh yes a tall accurate opening bowler. Step up Tristan Murrell . The key moment came in the third over when a peach of a ball found the edge and Yatesy rolled back the years to take a very sharp chance. That set the scene and John Graham held onto a good catch to give Rashid Mahmoud his first wicket. Trist bowled his 10 overs taking 4 wickets and Hayes never really recovered. Stuart Seagrave also held onto a fine catch at square leg. Yatesy managed to find some decent turn and Matt Cave our debutant keeper had a baptism of fire but acquitted himself very well. Jacob Stewart also took a wicket and with Yatesy getting a couple Hayes were in real trouble . Their number 9 Mann then decided to try and stop the rot . An entertaining cameo where he literally decided to try and smash every ball out of the ground . He was left stranded when he ran out of partners after the skipper brought himself on bowled one ball and took the last wicket. I didnt want to overdo it! 88 was never going to be enough and so it proved . John Graham scored a brisk 18 before playing back and missing a straight one. Steve Wale then played the same shot two ball later and at 19-2 it could have got interesting. Dick Highton and Nick Wale ensured that it didn't . Dick playing some lovely shots through the covers and a couple of extravagant efforts finished unbeaten on 40. Nick looked very cultured and they saw us home for another 8 wicket win. Another early finish which is not good for my liver. Another good night at the club , we watched the end of the first team game on a live video feed from Horspath. Another great win and there is talk of us getting a similar camera. Might even be worth getting one for the first team pitch as well!
