Mark Bater's Third Team moved up to second place in the table after a thrilling six run victory at Wraysbury last weekend.

After being asked to bat in helpful bowling conditions, we were quickly reduced to 2-2 after openers James Wheeler and Josh Camm were dismissed in successive overs. Benn Kempster and Tom Calder (pictured) rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 104 which was built on solid defence, good running and some brutal hitting.

Kempster was eventually dismissed for a very good 56 and he quickly followed by Alan Shepperd and Angus Cumming as we slipped 119-5. Calder continued to bat intelligently as he looked to bat through our innings and he found a useful ally in Stuart Quilliam who gave Calder the strike at every opportunity. With Calder looking set to score successive League hundreds, he was agonisingly dismissed for 99 in the final over of our innings as we finished on 193-7 from our 45 overs.

Our new ball attack of Cumming and Ed Pike did a brilliant job in the opening overs, containing the Wraysbury openers with Cumming very unfortunate to not pick up a wicket. Wraysbury batted patiently looking to leave wickets in hand. They were well set at 94-4 when Bater threw the ball back to Cumming who preceded to pick up two wickets in the opening over of his second spell.

Wraysbury then rallied with the pair of Harry Kibble and Mo Nawaz putting on 51 in quick time with some big hitting keeping our hosts in the game. With the pair going well, Bater threw the ball to Tom Calder who immediately dismissed Kibble thanks to an excellent catch by Cumming at Deep Midwicket.

Nawaz continued to find the boundary as our hosts were left needing 14 off the final over for victory. Leg Spinner Greg Lem who had already got two wickets dismissed Wraysbury captain Tom Dibley with five balls remaining stumped down the legside by Wheeler. Despite being hit for a boundary the following ball, Lem bowled a brilliant final over to lead us to a six run win.
