The third team were asked to bat first and after a solid start slumped to 74-6. With an early defeat looking on the cards, the pair of James Wheeler and Dan Tidey put on a match-winning partnership of 139 and start a target of 236 from our 45 overs. Wheeler played the supporting role in the partnership, scoring 43 as he looked to give strike to Tidey. The big hitting Tidey showed off his full range of strokes as he stuck five sixes and nine fours as he finished with a career best 103 not out.
Farnham Common's reply was measured and never up to the run-rate with our early bowlers Toby Seagrave, Dan Boniface and teenager Ed Pike picking up a wicket each as we reduced our hosts to 19-3. Ghazi and Shafiq fought back for Fareham Common with a century partnership before the former was run-out by Josh Camm and David Crane. With Shafiq looking to win the game on his own, he was dismissed by the always impressive Seagrave for 65. Debutant Aussie Angus Cumming mopped up the tail, picking up three wickets with a mixture of his pace and spin bowling.
