The Second Team won this game by fifty runs after a good batting performance set Windsor a target of 255. The total was due largely to 95 from Richard Ambrose at more than a run a ball and 66 from Matt Grinham.

Both were happy to defend the good balls but punish the bad ones, playing an array of powerful strokes as they found the boundary 28 times between them. Grinham shared a second wicket or partnership of 70 with Adam Goldberg and Ambrose one of 86 for the sixth wicket with Toby Wastling. Ambrose upped the tempo towards the end of his innings as 83 were scored from eleven overs and he scored 23 from his last 13 balls.

But was 254 enough? It was the usual Home Park quick outfield and the previous Saturday Windsor had posted 322. It soon seemed it was enough as Snookes on his return to Tring Park had Windsor captain, Kris Baumgartner, fending at the second ball of the innings and gently lobbing it to cover for Ant McCormack to take the catch.

Three overs later Nick Grant had Sam Jordan caught behind by Andy Dixon and then in the following over, Snookes had Tom Edwards LBW to leave Windsor in a certain amount of disarray at 9 for 3. That brought Mark Lines to the wicket and he led a recovery, first as he put on 43 with Adam Weston and then 101 with Ollie Jordan. Weston departed LBW to Orton, but Wastling made the crucial breakthrough as he dismissed both Lines and Jordan in just over two overs. First he got the ball to nip back between Lines’ bat and pad to clip the top of middle stump and then Jordan trying to force the pace lofted the ball straight back for him to take a one handed catch above his head.

There was a little late resistance from Jamie Hall and Adam Allen-Turner, but the asking rate which had been hovering at about a run ball soon began to creep up. Seagrave was now in the attack and he accounted Chris Dixon and Jamie Hall. Orton returned to have Allen-Turner caught by Snookes. At 203 for 9 it was a question of time and victory came in a slightly amusing manner. Charlie Jackson played the ball in the air to deep gully where Sanjoy Bassi failed to take the catch, the batsmen set off for a second run, only for Bassi to pick the ball up and effect a direct hit run out.
