Burnham Burned

Stand in captain Richard Ambrose’s (pictured) 106 not out provided the backbone of the Second Team's substantial total off 255-6 at Burnham. There were early useful contributions from Jeremy O’Neill and Solly Woodall who each scored 21. Mo Choudhry joined Ambrose with the score on 107-3 and together they put on 124 in 20 overs, with 81 being scored from the last 10 overs. Choudhry accelerated at the end of his innings as he scored 34 from his last 18 balls including two fours and two sixes.

In pursuit of their target, Burnham were always up with or not far behind the required rate, but wickets kept falling. Choudhry took the first wicket with 27 runs on the board and Burnham slumped to 39-3, thanks to Paul Orton’s direct hit run out, and then to 66 for 4.

Opener, Awais Basharat was out for 49 to a very good leg side stumping by O’Neill off the bowling of Orton with the score on 110. The sixth wicket went down at 146 and in the next over Jake Seagrave was introduced into the attack and any slim chance of a Burnham victory fast disappeared. His second over was a triple wicket maiden as the score subsided to 152 for 9. And on the final ball of his third over he trapped the number eleven LBW to complete a remarkable spell of bowling and a 95 run victory.
