Tring Park 2nd XI have now bowled out the opposition in each of the three weeks of this league season. A feat they managed only twice during the whole of last season.
But their efforts were all in vain as rain started to fall as Dan Boniface took the last Kew wicket. The rain became heavy during the tea interval and the match was abandoned shortly after six o’clock. A disappointment for Tring Park who were confident of scoring the 136 needed for victory in 42 overs.
The first rain interruption had come as early as after the fourth ball, but still had allowed Paul Orton enough time to take the first of his five wickets as he got the ball to move away and find the edge for Richard Ambrose to take the catch at first slip. The players were off for over ninety minutes, but less than ten minutes after the resumption, Orton had picked up his second wicket with the one that nips back in. A smart piece of work in the field from Kamran Shah led to a run out, before Orton took out the middle order. A batsman who doesn’t know which way Toby Wastling is going to move the ball, cuts him at his peril. Twice in his first over the ball nipped back in cramping the batsman for room, resulting in identical dismissals as the ball was guided into Ash Haw’s hands in the gully. Without Martyn Winslade, Kew’s total would have been even lower. He scored a patient 48 before being caught by James Bushe off the bowling of Adam Ali to be ninth out.
