Finchampstead opening batsmen hung in well to post an opening partnership of 41. Batting on an excellent track the hosts made great use of it as our bowlers toiled on a warm day. Two other noticeable partnerships of 99 for the second wicket and 112 for the sixth took the host score to 343-9 after 58 overs.
The pick of the our bowlers was captin Shelvin Gumbs with 3-32 and was backed up with two each for Stanway and Andy Harris.
In reply to Finchampstead innings, the early loss of AJ Woodland created a setback to the foundation required to setup the big chase. Charlie Macdonell joined Steve Clark (pictured) and the pair added 42 before Macdonell was caught at Midwicket for 29 off 32 deliveries.
Payne then joined Clark and the rebuild was looking on as they added 84 before Payne was caught behind on 52 from 57 balls. Gumbs and Clark got the inning back on track, then with Clark on 97 he too was caught behind after a partnership of 89. Gumbs soon followed for a run a ball 36.
The middle order spent some much needed time at the crease but the huge total of 343 proved out of reach. It was left to Matt Grinham,Mo Choudhry, Harris, Weymes and Chloe Hill to hold out for the draw as the First Team finished on 280-8.
