Welcome Tommy Sturgess - Senior Player Coach

Welcome Tommy Sturgess - Senior Player Coach

Deric Newman25 Mar - 13:03

We are absolutely thrilled to officially announce and welcome our new Player Coach, Tommy Sturgess, to the club.

Tommy joins us with an incredible pedigree, having recently made his professional debut for Worcestershire CCC in 2024 and representing the England XI in the European Cricket Championship. A dynamic all-rounder known for his right-arm fast-medium bowling and aggressive batting, he brings a wealth of high-level experience from his time in the NCCA with his home county Cornwall and more recently Berkshire.

When asked why he chose Tring Park for the next stage of his career Tommy said “Having played at Tring for Cornwall in the 2023 NCCA finals day (3/18, 3/36 and 14*), I knew what a lovely ground it was and that there was a special feeling about the club itself; it’s a great set up, with great people who want to become the best versions of themselves. Living locally it was an easy decision to reach out to the club and have discussions with Richard about their plans.

“I can bring much of what I learned as a professional to the players at Tring Park; I bring a no nonsense approach, having got skin in the game I understand how cricket is played these days. I know how to make teams gel.

“I can’t wait to get going with this group of players, we have 4 senior teams all ready to push for promotion and league titles”

Nice shot Tommy!

Beyond his on-field talent, Tommy is a highly respected fast-bowling specialist and lead coach at PaceLab, where he focuses on technical development and strength & conditioning. His energy and expertise are set to be a massive asset for both our senior squads and the next generation of Tring talent.

Director of Cricket Richard Yates spoke effusively about securing the services of Tommy for this season:

“We are very excited to have Tommy on board to lead the coaching and development of players throughout the senior section and greatly assist our aim to bring talented junior players through a pathway to senior cricket at Tring Park.

“When we set out on recruitment it wasn't just looking for a star player; we were searching for a catalyst for growth. Tommy’s role as Player Coach means he isn't just leading from the sidelines. By playing alongside the 1st XI, he can provide real-time mentorship on the pitch. His background with Worcestershire CCC and the England XI brings a "professional standard" to every training session, sharpening the competitive edge of the entire senior squad.

“Tommy will oversee the structure of how Tring Park trains. This means consistent coaching philosophies across all levels, and all sections, ensuring that wherever they are playing, they are learning the "Tring Way" under professional guidance.

“Securing a coach of Tommy’s calibre sends a clear message: Tring Park is ambitious and reflects the club's commitment to being a premier destination for cricketers in the region—combining top-tier performance with a nurturing environment for local talent.

Let’s give Tommy a massive Tring Park welcome as we look forward to an unforgettable 2026!”
