Another strong showing from the club at the weekend with three wins and a draw, plus our Under 9 Rodwell Cup Festival took place on Sunday in beautiful sunshine.

This week “Baloo the Jugster” travelled along the M40 to Aston Rowant.

The league structure now moved into the timed format with this week being the first of nine consecutive weeks.

With Shelvin Gumbs missing due to work commitments, Charlie Macdonell was very supportive in stepping forward to lead the team. The toss was won by Aston Rowant who elected to field first.

Woodland had a new opening partner in Dixon with the pair putting on 16 for the first wicket before Dixon was caught behind. Woodland looked in fine form driving the ball straight but uncharacteristically chased a wide one and was caught behind. Aston Rowant bowled very well throughout and by lunch TPCC scored 116 for the loss of both openers. Resuming after lunch Macdonell and Payne continued the main partnership of the match before Payne fell for 48 in a partnership of 109. Macdonell leading from the from the front played a captain’s innings scoring 92 before being out bowled.

Brent, Harris, Choudhry and Dutch all contributed with useful runs at the end of the innings taking TPCC’s total to 235.

A steady opening spell from both Brent and Stanway saw them both picking up a wicket each, both caught behind by keeper Stephen Dutch. As the innings moved on, Aston Rowant gradually fell behind the rate. The bowling change to Woodland and Harris resulted in another two wickets, one each and the introduction of spin from Payne two other wickets fell, both brilliantly stumped by Dutch to go with his two catches (another brilliant day behind the stumps). It was clear at this stage the hosts had settled for a draw and mitigated all risk in pursue of TPCC’s score.

With Aston Rowant now on 162 for 5, the rain came in and both teams shook hands, the match agreed with 4 over left.

TPCC remains in 4th place in the league, 17 points behind leaders High Wycombe.

“Baloo the Jugster” returns back home next Saturday 16th June for week 7 against Oxford who are in 9th place in the league following their defeat to Slough CC on Saturday.

Captain Shelvin Gumbs will again be missing, but once more will be turning out for the 2nd team.

The second XI had a solid five wicket win against Chiswick & Whitton at Station Road. After restricting the visitors to just 63 from their first 30 overs some lower order hitting threatened to take them past 200 before the return of Paul Orton and some wonderful fielding from skipper Richard Ambrose kept Chiswick to a score of 192/9. Tring made a rapid start thanks to a 42 ball fifty from O'Neill but his dismissal triggered a collapse form 70/1 to 82/5. It was Shelvin Gumbs (78*) and Dan Tidey (38*) who saw Tring home despite a few anxious moments early on. Tring lie second 13 points behind leaders Ickenham and travel to Ruislip next Saturday.

The third XI cruised to a nine wicket win at Chiswck & Whitton. Aussie Angus Cummings took 6/31 and stand in skipper 'little' Dan Boniface chipped in with three wickets. On a small ground 199 never looked enough and Dave Crane (89) and Josh Camm (70*) put on 150 for the first wicket. The spirit in the team was fantastic and they now lie in 2nd place, entertaining Farnham Royal next Saturday.

The fourth XI had an exciting last over victory against Farnahm Common 3rd XI. Ollie Hemlin took his first two wickets in senior cricket as the visitors posted 182/6 from their 40 overs. Dick Highton and Nick Wake provided a century opening stand in glamorous fashion before a mini collpase saw Tring slip to 131/4 with just 7 overs remaining, some intelligent batting and running from Joe Shearman and Matt Cave put Tring back in the driving seat and Krishnar Kumar Mohan saw the team home to a five wicket win. The fourth XI also lie second.

Sunday saw the sixth staging of our Rodwell Cup festival in magnificent sunshine on the main ground. Teams from across Herts and Bucks took part and the day ended with a terrific final, Wendover edging out Chorleywood by just 5 runs to win the Cup.
