Pitch Perfect: Women’s Cricket Booms in Tring

Pitch Perfect: Women’s Cricket Booms in Tring

Deric Newman29 Apr - 07:00

The sun is out, the boundaries are being pushed, and the "thwack" of willow on leather is taking on a distinctly new rhythm this year.

As we prepare for a historic summer of sport, Tring Park Cricket Club (TPCC) is proud to be at the heart of one of the most exciting shifts in British sports: the meteoric rise of women’s and girls’ cricket.

A Summer of World-Class Inspiration
This isn't just any season. This summer, the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup arrives on home soil. With the final set for the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 5th, the nation is bracing for "Cricket-mania."

At Tring Park, we are already feeling the "World Cup Effect." We’ve seen a massive surge in new players joining our ranks, eager to emulate their heroes. Whether you’re inspired by the power-hitting of the professional game or just looking for a new way to stay active, there has never been a better time to pick up a bat.

By the Numbers: The Fastest-Growing Sport in the UK
Cricket is frequently cited as one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and the data backs it up. While women’s football and rugby are also booming, cricket’s grassroots explosion is staggering:

Participation Explosion: Between 2016 and 2026, the number of female players in the UK has quadrupled.

Team Growth: In 2024 alone, over 1,000 new teams were registered. As of this season, women’s teams have grown by a further 18%, with girls' teams up 13%.

Going Pro: The path to the top is clearer than ever. In 2019, there were fewer than 20 professional female cricketers; today, in 2026, there are over 135 professionals alongside the centrally-contracted England squad.

Why Tring Park is the Place to Play
We believe that cricket is for everyone—regardless of whether you’ve played for years or don’t know a "googlie" from a "square leg."

First-Class Coaching
Our programme is led by the incredible Gemma Marriott. Not only is Gemma an ECB Level 3 coach, but she is also a seasoned professional currently serving as the 20-over captain for Northamptonshire Women. Under her guidance, and supported by our team of professional coaches, players progress in a challenging, fun, and highly supportive environment.

Something for Every Age
We offer dedicated Girls-only teams across multiple age groups, ensuring that every player finds their tribe:

Under 11s, 13s, 15s, & 19s

Women’s First XI: Competing in the Herts Womens League Division One.

Dynamos Cricket: The Perfect Start
For our younger stars (aged 8–11), our Dynamos Cricket sessions are the highlight of the week.
When: Fridays @ 6pm (Starting May 15th)
What: High-energy, girls-only sessions focused on fun, friendship, and fundamental skills.
Bonus: No need to book in advance—just turn up and join in! (Membership and participation fees apply).

"Don't have a bat? No problem. Don't have whites? Don't worry!"
At TPCC, we provide all the gear you need to get started. All we ask you to bring is a pair of trainers and a "can-do" attitude.

Join the Community
Tring Park isn't just a club; it’s a community. From game-based drills to social events at the pavilion, we celebrate the joy of the game at every level.
