Tring U15B 124 for 5 beat Watford U15B 120 for 3.
By George Bezani
Another win for the B team
Apologies to everyone that was promised 30 degree heat last night. It was more 13 degrees with a blanket and a hot chocolate to keep warm. Jacob was captain for the day against top of the table Watford.
They won the toss and elected to bat. We knew they would be tough opposition but we got off to a great start when Natalie ran out their opening batsman for 0 with a direct hit deep in the field with just one stump to aim at. The next two both retired and at the halfway mark, Watford were 67 for 1 heading for a big total. We did peg them back though with wickets for Hannah ‘bowled’ and Natalie ‘caught Louis’. They finished 120 for 3, a competitive score but one we knew we could reach if we batted well. Pick of the bowlers were Hannah 1 for 7 and Natalie 1 for 9 both off two overs.
Finn Graham and Hannah opened the batting and we kept up with the run rate throughout the innings. A flurry of wickets late on though left us needing 15 off the last two overs. 13 off the penultimate over swung the pendulum in our favour. Three dot balls in the final over and with only two wickets left, it got a bit nervy until Jacob hit a four to win the match.
A great performance that puts us joint top.
Batting wise, Finn retired on 25, Ben Westcott retired on 26, Louis retired on 27, a great cameo from Ben Bezani scoring 11 off three balls including a six and then got caught in the deep off his fourth ball, Hannah 9 runs and Sam helping steer us home with 7 not out.
Player of the match went to Louis with his 27 not out and catch in the field.
Champagne moment went to Natalie with a fine run out at deep square leg and also showing great spirit for walking when edging to the keeper and given not out.
