Tring U15A v Berkhamsted
By George Bezani
We lost the game but won the league
It is always a good game when we play our friends from Berkhamsted and this was no exception.
We knew even if we lost and got 16 bonus points we would top the league and get a home quarter final.
Berkhamsted won the toss and batted first. Even though we wanted to bat first this actually helped us as by getting 8 wickets and a target of 117, it meant we only needed to score 80 to lose and come top of the league.
Berkhamsted got off to a good start but this was ended in a bizarre way when a lovely drive from Todd was tipped onto the stumps by Ben Westcott with Harry out of his ground leaving Berko 8/1. In came Doe and he and Todd had a great stand before Finn Graham ran out Doe with a great throw leaving Berko on 48/2 after 7 overs. Bezani took the important wicket of Captain Ben Oldham with an wide off cutter chopped onto his stumps, Berko 50/3 after 8 overs. In came Charlie Lound and he batted nicely until Hendo clean bowled him, Berko 70/4 off 13. Ed came back to bowl the 15th over and took two wickets, Berko on 74/6. Westcott took care of former TPCC player George who hit two lovely shots before being bowled in the 16th with Berko on 73/7. Shaw and Montero moved the score up to 116 in the last 4 overs before another run out with both at one end on the last ball. Berkhamsted finishing on 116/8 off the 20.
I thought we were sloppy in the field and probably gave them 10-15 too many. However this was an achievable total if we batted sensibly.
Tom and Hendo opened the batting and all looked good until the 2nd over when Tom miscued one and was caught for 9. Captain Woody came in and unfortunately Hendo was bowled in the 3rd over with the score on 11/2. In came Ed and helped push the score onto 24 before Woddy was out Caught off Pemberton in the 6th over. Finn came in had a great stand with Ed who pushed us onto 85 in the 14th over, a partnership of 61. Ed unfortunately hit his wicket going for a big six. We looked in a good position needing only 31 off the last 6 overs (we were 15 ahead of Berko at this stage).
Finn retired on 40 not out with a great innings. Unfortunately the next players coming in struggled to score runs with the exception of Ben Kearney with a great cameo. Unfortunately we fell one run short.
Many thanks for Olly and Mike for scoring, I really appreciate your help.
All the best,
