U13 Girls

For the second week in a row Tring were facing a side with several county players including some experienced U15 county batters. Tring lost the toss and Boxmoor opted to put Tring into bat.

Abbie Osborne was captain and she opened the batting with Rachel. The bowling from the visitors was very accurate and Rachel lost her wicket very early. Both Rachel and Abbie hit the ball well but the shots always found a fielder and scoring was slow. They finished their overs on 209/1. Emma and Millie had the same problem, hitting the ball but unable to find gaps in the field. Emma was unlucky to lose her wicket, although she did hit an excellent four to help push Tring to 218/2 after eight overs. Chesky and Rosie were up next and both played well, Chesky hitting a smart four to push the score on to 239/2 off 12 overs. The dynamic duo of Abi Marsh and Olivia were up next and tried to push the score on, but found it difficult against some tight bowling and good fielding. Abi managed to find a gap in the field to reach the boundary, but Boxmoor struck back as Olivia lost her wicket. With Boxmoor giving away no extras in the four over spell Tring had only moved to 240/3 with four overs to go. Catherine and Natalie were up last and knew they had to push the score on to give Tring a total to defend, but Boxmoor had kept their best U15 County bowlers for the end. Some good running by both girls and two boundaries from Catherine saw Tring finish their innings on 261/3.

Against some very strong batters this was always going to be a difficult total to defend, but Tring went onto the field in good spirits and feeling confident. Rachel and Abbie Osborne opened the bowling, with Abbie leading the way as captain and taking a wicket with her very first ball. Her second ball also hit the stumps but was a shade too high and given as a no ball by the umpire. This let off for Boxmoor allowed them to recover their composure and some good hitting in the latter stages of the pairing took them to 225/1 after four overs. Emma and Millie bowled the next overs. Both girls have been improving their bowling accuracy with every game, and they delivered a lot of dot balls to stifle the attack with only 2 runs coming off the bat, though a few wide balls allowed Boxmoor to reach 246/1 after eight overs. Rosie and Francesca bowled next, and with good batting to come Tring would need wickets to reduce the visitors’ score. Both bowlers duly obliged with Rosie taking a wicket and Chesky taking two more to leave Boxmoor on 255/4 after twelve overs. The dynamic duo were up to bowl next and were tasked with taking more wickets. Olivia bowled two good overs , and Abi Marsh took her sixth wicket of the season with an excellent delivery, but with a county player hitting the ball well the visitors were still able to go into the lead reaching 274/5 with four overs left. Catherine and Natalie knew they had to stop the runs and take plenty of wickets if Tring were going to save the match, but Boxmoor had again saved their best for last with two experienced U15 county batters coming to the crease. A combination of excellent hitting and some sloppy Tring fielding allowed Boxmoor to cruise to a comfortable win, passing the 300 mark in the final over.

Final score:
Tring Park CC 261/3 (20.0 overs)
Harpenden CC 308/5 (20.0 overs)
Boxmoor won by 47 runs

Coming up against such a strong line up this was a difficult match for Tring, but once again the team spirit was excellent, and taking 5 wickets ensures that Tring pick up 5 more losing bonus points to add to the 5 they earned against Harpenden.
