After the early loss of Tom Calder, the Piranhas recovered through a partnership between Benn Kempster and Ali Partner. T20 cricket is suited to Kempster’s style of batting as the club captain hit the ball to all parts as he raced to 31 off only 12 balls. With the Piranhas looking on for a big total, they were reduced to from 37-1 to 58-5.
Captain James Wheeler (pictured) rebuilt the innings scoring 38 off 33 balls with him finding the boundary five times including one six. He drove and pulled the ball powerfully as his hitting moved the total over 100. He was dismissed with three overs to go with the Piranhas eventually bowled out for 121 in the 20th over.
With the wicket favouring slower bowling, off spinner Josh Camm took the new ball and picked up the wicket of Jason McDermid in the first over after deceiving him in the flight and trapping him LBW. Camm also picked up the second wicket of Jason McDermid who was well caught by Toby Seagrave at mid off.
Eaton Bray’s wicket-keeper Wes Hosking was joined by captain Lee Gauntlett and the pair promptly took the game away from the Piranhas with some powerful hitting and intelligent running. Hosking made 60 off 40 balls before retiring out with the hosts requiring less than 20.
The Seagraves, Toby and Jake picked up a wicket each for the Piranhas but they couldn’t prevent the hosts winning by five wickets with 16 balls remaining.
