The Tring Park innings got off to a solid start as openers Rory Wood and Tom Powell-Williams ticked the score along, until Wood was trapped in front with the score on 12. Finn Graham (29) and Powell-Williams (27) pushed the score to 39 by the 10th over.
The loss of Powell-Williams and Ed Pike saw Chris Curry join Graham, and the pair put on 44. Curry’s classy innings of 25 was cut short by a good catch in the covers, making him the first victim of Harry Rice.
A middle order collapse followed, as Tom Weymes was caught in the deep and Nick Grant tried one cut shot too many. With the score at 104-9, Ben Bezani joined Gary Mosley. The pair took the attack to the bowlers, and put on an entertaining 29 runs for the 10th wicket. Bezani (17) was trapped in front by Rice, who finished with 5-31 with Mosley finishing 12 not out, as the Sunday Team setting a target of 133.
It was always going to be a tough ask defending a low score. Ben Westcott took the new ball along with Bezani, and the pair bowled with good control. Westcott (1-21) struck first as Curry safely took the catch. The Lee batsman then began to take control, until Gary Mosley was injected into the attack. It was with immediate success as he took a caught and bowled to give the Sunday Team a glimmer of hope. Mosley snared another as Curry took his second catch of the afternoon.
In his first game back in Tring colours for a number of years, Mosley caused plenty of trouble with the ball, finishing with figures of 2-37 off seven overs. However, there was to be no further joy for our bowlers, who toiled right to the end. Grant turned to Matt Cave, Weymes and Pike, who all bowled well but without luck.
In unusual circumstances, the players began to shake hands, only to find that the scores were still level. Rather than a countback on boundaries, Chris Curry was thrown the ball with the scores level and seven wickets still required. His crafty off-spin caused plenty of trouble, however he could not prevent the inevitable.
