On Tuesday evening our Under 10s played their penultimate Herts league hardball match against the only team they had lost to this season, Hemel Hempstead. It was a lovely evening and the boys relished the opportunity to play on our main square, which looked fantastic.
Hemel batted first and were restricted to 204-2 off 4 overs, after great opening spells from Joey & Kit, who each took a wicket. Barney, Jamie, Jake & Dylan then continued to put pressure on the middle order batsmen, by bowling a good line & length, resulting in plenty of crucial dot balls. The leg spin duo of Ferdy & Thomas then finished off with flight, guile and plenty of spin, taking three wickets between them, leaving Hemel 243-6 at the halfway stage.
Kit & Thomas opened the batting and were intent on attacking the bowlers from the start, which got us off to a flyer reaching 228-1 after 4 overs. Jamie & Jake then kept the scoreboard ticking over with some really positive batting, always looking to rotate the strike at every opportunity and punishing any poor deliveries. Barney & Joey then put on 27 runs in 4 overs, without losing a wicket, after some great hitting and sensible running between the wickets, taking the total far beyond the target, to 266-4. Ferdy & Dylan then extended the lead to 289-4 with some well struck boundaries and good rotation of the strike, to confirm victory and win the league.
The boys have done fantastically well this season. They have their final league game away at Berkhamsted on Monday evening and a win should guarantee a home Quarter Final draw, not to mention, it’s always nice to beat Berko!
Well done boys, keep it going!
