Nice end of season win for the U14's
Big with for the Tring U14's against Berkhamsted
We were delighted to be invited to Berkhamsted for the final game of the season and some called it "The Decider" as it was 1-1 in games this season in the Hertfordshire Junior league.
All was looking good for us fielding eleven players however a couple of diary mishaps meant we travelled with nine. Fortunately there seemed to be an extra player who was a friend of Charlie so he was drafted into the team and we had ten. It was decided that Batsmen would retier at 25 but could come back in.
Ben Oldham won the toss, despite a sneaky attempt by Charlie to flip the coin over :-), and decided to bat. Bezani and Westcott opened the bowling. Our aim was to bowl everyone who wanted to at least two overs and the next pair bowling were Hendo and Woody. Jacob getting the first wicket after being bashed by Ben Oldham in the first two balls who then retired, Jacob came back with a wicket of the new batsman who came in to replace Ben Oldham. All the Tring boys bowled well with the pick of the bowlers being Sam Hawkins with two wickets for only 8 runs off his two overs.
We kept them restricted to 139 off their 20 overs.
The word from the crowd was they thought we might struggle to get them, however I was confident we would get them easily with our previous scores against Berkhamsted 152 and 175.
Hendo and Ben Bezani opened the innings and after a steady first over where Hendo scored six, Ben put the foot down with the next over going for 21 runs. Ben retired for 28 in over 5 off 11 balls. Hendo soon followed him and the two got Tring off to a great start with 68 coming off the first 6 overs. Rhys came in for Ben and David for Hendo. the score moved onto 88/1 off 9. Finn Graham came and went to a snorter of a ball from Ben Oldham. Charlie came in and despite running two players out moved to 27 retired not out. Sam Hawkins got a couple of runs before being bagged by Charlie Lound how also got Rhys for an important 23 and Louis Rudd came in and spanked the winning runs with a lovely drive.
In the end we won by four wickets in the 15th over.
Next season looks good if we can maintain and improve on performances like this.
This is it for the season and a great way to sign off. Please remember that the awards are being given out on Sunday 9th September at 1pm followed by the T20 blast. It would be great to see as many there as possible. You can also play in the Blast games afterwards if you want. Just confirm your availability with Gareth Darby.
