Second Team Denied By Final Pair
The Second Team disappointingly failed to secure a win as Datchet’s last pair hung on to earn a draw. But with a tally of 15 points we remain in second place.
The day belonged to Adam Partner (pictured) as he dispatched the ball to all parts on his way to amassing 142 from 121 balls. He found the boundary in the second over and again in the third and this set the tome for his innings as he scored 18 fours and five sixes in a blistering display of stroke play in one of the best innings seen in the Second Team for years.
He was well supported firstly by Ant McCormack in a fifth innings partnership of 75. And then with Toby Wastling who found form in his second game back from injury. They put on 45 for the sixth wicket in just 20 balls. A late quick fire 20 off ten balls from Lawrence Snookes saw a declaration on 277 at the end of the 51st over.
Lawrence Snookes bowled well and was rewarded with the first wicket with the score on 44. Only one more run had been added before both openers were back in the pavilion as Angus Cumming found the edge for Alastair Partner to take a good diving catch at slip.
Five runs later, Sheridon Gumbs drift accounted for the third wicket. Angus Cumming continued to produce a very good spell of off break bowling as he picked up three more wickets to finish with 4-62.
Wickets continued to fall but the elusive final wicket eluded the Second Team attack.
