The club hosted the 5th staging of The Whitehead Cup on Sunday with Wendover beating Berkhamsted in a pulsating final.

The Whitehead Cup is an incrediball tournament for Under 10's named after our long serving player treasurer and trustee Derek Whitehead. Seven teams took part in the day which was blessed with glorious weather.

The group stages saw a number of last ball finishes which included a tie between a combined Tring and Northchurch team and Berkhamsted. Leverstock Green B bowed out after the group stages and left the remaining six teams to battle it out in the ranking round.

For fifth place the combined Tring and Northchurch team beat Northchurch quite comfortably, whilst Tring, Who had narrowly missed out on a place in the final beat Leverstock Green to take 3rd place.

The final pitched Berkhamsted against Wendover and it was a pulsating affair. The Hertfordshire side batted first and made 240 from their eight overs (sides start with 200). Wendover made a rapid start in reply but some accurate bowling pegged them back and they needed six from the last over. A couple of wides and some scrambled singles meant that a textbook forward defensive to the last ball meant a Wendover victory by just one run.

It was great to see upwards of 60 juniors on the field enjoying a great days cricket. Congratulations to all those who took part and well done to Wendover who won the Whitehead Cup for the first time.
