Wendover v TPCC

A great game of cricket against a strong Wendover team. We always knew this would be a tough match. Wendover have only lost 1 game this season, and that was against us. I knew they'd put out their strongest players tonight.

Jamie was our captain and he led by example throughout the whole game. We lost the toss and Wendover chose to bat first.

In recent games our bowling has been very strong, with wickets continually falling. Our bowling tonight was just as good with very few wides and no balls being given away. We just couldn't get them out though! Not through any fault of ours, they just defended their wicket well and looked for gaps in our fielding to get boundaries. The pitch was running very fast at the start of the game, so getting fours was easier for them then us when we came to bat. We did get 2 wickets, 1 clean bowl from Kit and 1 for Jamie, who bowled it so quick, it broke the bail (which he was able to keep as a momentum from the game!!).
Some great fielding today from all the boys and well done to Barney and Max for superb wicket keeping. Have a mention Jamie and his brave stopping of the ball, which led to the need of an ice pack.
Wendover finished on 311 for 2 wickets.

So a high target for us to achieve.

Some great batting tonight from all the boys and the pairs worked well together. Wendover bowled and fielded well. We unfortunately lost 8 wickets, which at -6 runs each, made a big difference to our score. Finishing on 280 for 8 wickets, the extra wickets we lost shows just how well we did with our batting.

The boys were great tonight and a credit to the club. Although we lost, they all enjoyed the game and showed great respect for each other and the opposition. Sometimes we just have to congratulate the opposition for being the better team on the night.

A parent who was working in the clubhouse said to me at the end of the game what a lovely group of boys the Tring team were. She commented that when they were getting their snacks, or buying something from the bar, their manners were wonderful. I thought it was a sweet thing for her to say.

Thanks to Tom for umpiring, and for the parents who came to support the boys.

I think this will be our last Bucks game this season as I can't see us fitting in the Beaconsfield game that they weren't able to do a few weeks ago. I'll let you know where we finish in the league.
