Match Report

Well, what a game!

On a glorious summers afternoon in Beaconsfield, our U10 boys played an amazing game of cricket.

Barney was the captain today and we fielded first on what was a slightly wonkey pitch..!

Barnaby and Rishy shared the wicket keeping today and both did really well. Dylan and Jake opened the bowling and quickly got some wickets and both gave only a few runs away. Dylan was on form and took 4 fantastic wickets. Rhys and Barnaby were the next pair and another 2 wickets, 1 for Barnaby and a run out. Charlie and Joshy were the next pair and again more wickets fell, with Charlie getting 2, 1 from a clean bowl and 1 where Rishy took a great catch. Danny and Barney added to the pressure by getting another wicket, bowled by Danny and caught by Dylan. The last pairing of Rishy and Fionn were up against 2 very good batsmen and although neither got a wicket, they did well to limit the runs. Beaconsfield finished on 271 for 9 wickets.

I let the boys lead slightly on who they batted with, and this really paid off as the communication and support for each other on the pitch was brilliant. Each pairing worked so well with each other.

So we needed 272 to win......

Each pairing made some runs between them and our score ticked along nicely. Barney had a great time on the pitch, hitting the boundary 4 times against a very good bowler.
The final pairing of Rishy and Fionn were up against 2 incredible bowlers and throughout their 4 overs, we were ahead, behind, level. Going into the last over, we had 271 runs. Fionn got a run which nipped us into the lead. Rishy had to face the last 4 balls and batted so calmly and sensibly. The boys were overjoyed with the win, whilst us parents nerves were in tatters!!!

So a win by one run.

Thanks as always to Niall and Tom for umpiring the game and their support of all the boys on the pitch. Thanks to the many travelling fans from Tring for making the journey and adding to the great event it was.

I thought the players and managers from Beaconsfield were lovely and it was a great game to be a part of. Our boys showed them great respect, and they in turn, showed us the same.

Many thanks

Liz
