Former overseas player Peter Handscomb led Victoria to victory over South Australia last weekend with an unbeaten 100.

It was Handscomb’s final innings before heading to South Africa with the Australian Test squad and he made it count as he scored an unbeaten 114 off 127 balls.

Handscomb, who also captained Victoria in the match, struck his 13th first class hundred as he led his team home with six wickets remaining at the Adelaide Oval.

Victoria were 84/3 at one stage in pursuit of a testing fourth-innings target of 252, but Handscomb steadied and then hit the winning runs with 11 overs to spare for the Victoria to collect their first Sheffield Shield win of the season.

He will now depart for South Africa along with Steve Smith and his touring party for the three-match test series beginning at Durban on March 1st at 8am.

South Africa is Handscomb’s third overseas tour with the senior Australian team after trips to Bangladesh and India last year. In his short Test career to date, Handscomb has struck two hundreds and has a healthy average of nearly 50.

Everybody at the club is incredibly proud of Pete. He plundered over 1,000 runs for our club scoring three hundreds and seven fifties during his hugely impressive spell with the club in 2011.
