Payne scored 126 as Buckinghamshire posted 440-9 in their first innings against Northumberland at Jesmond on Sunday. This total proved too much for the hosts as they were bowled out for 186 and 195 as Buckinghamshire won by an innings. Buckinghamshire have now won both their opening two games in the Unicorns Championship Eastern Division and proudly sit top.
Payne has now passed at least 50 in all three of his innings in the Unicorns Championship for Buckinghamshire this season. In their opening win against Bedfordshire at our ground, he scored 123 not out and 56 and is currently averaging 152 in the Championship.
As well as Payne, our first team captain Shelvin Gumbs also made the long trip to Jesmond. Fresh from his matchwinning knock against High Wycombe on Saturday, Gumbs contributed 28 off 22 balls in Buckinghamshire's total of 440.
Buckinghamshire will look to make it three wins from three when they take on Lincolnshire at Chesham with the three day game beginning on July 22.
